Tired Mom and Artistic Child Photographer.
I can’t remember the last time I felt rested and energetic. I could blame it on being old, but really I’m not that old. I blame kids. They conspire to keep me up at night in a multitude of creative ways, and then demand things ALL DAY LONG. So. many. demands. My limbs physically hurt from being hung on and tugged all day and I’m just bone tired. Please tell me I’m not alone!!! I recently had a single friend visit and I asked her what she did on Saturdays. Her response: I wake up, get brunch with friends, go shopping with friends, run errands, take a nap, take a shower (ALONE) and then go out to dinner and drinks. I think I was literally drooling with my jaw wide open. What the heck. That sounds totally amazing. That is fodder for my dreams. Seriously, I dream about eating breakfast in an abandoned kitchen with a fresh pot of coffee all for me. And some cereal or eggs. All mine. Just mine! With quiet! Lots of chirping crickets and no screaming monkeys. Or of running to the grocery store and being out of there in 10 minutes flat. No snack bar stops. No meltdowns over the gummies. No unwanted radishes in my cart. And no lost children to chase after. OR – get this – 12 straight hours of continuous sleep with NO INTERRUPTIONS. Who’s with me??? Doesn’t this all sound glorious? I dream daily about this peace and quiet. But then, my red haired wonder and my wild crazy toddler come stomping into the picture, demanding yogurt pouches and screen time, and I just smile and think how it is so worth it. I’d trade anything in the world for them. EVEN SLEEP.
